Stellar evolution of low and intermediate-mass stars III. An application of evolutionary post-AGB models: the variable central star FGSagittae

چکیده

Based on a set of evolutionary calculations for thermally pulsating post-AGBmodelswe introduce a robustmethod to measure FGSge’s mass which was found to be 0.61M . The corresponding evolutionary timescale is consistent with the expansion age of the planetary nebula. Assuming that FGSge’s surface was already enriched with heavy elements on the AGB we propose that during the central-star evolution these elements were removed from the superficial radiative layers due to, e.g., dust/gas separation, leaving the deeper convective layers unchanged. During the flash the outward moving envelope convection mixed the stored heavy elements back to the surface.

Pulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I

We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...

Scaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters

We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...

RV variable , hot post - AGB stars from the MUCHFUSS project - Classification , atmospheric parameters , formation scenarios

In the course of the MUCHFUSS project we have recently discovered four radial velocity (RV) variable, hot (Teff ≈ 80 000−110 000 K) post-asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars. Among them, we found the first known RV variable O(He) star, the only second known RV variable PG 1159 close binary candidate, as well as the first two naked (i.e., without planetary nebula (PN)) H-rich post-AGB stars of sp...

On the formation of hydrogen-deficient post-AGB stars

We present an evolutionary sequence of a low mass star from the Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) through its postAGB stage, during which its surface chemical composition changes from hydrogen-rich to strongly hydrogen-deficient as consequence of a very late thermal pulse, following the socalled born-again scenario. The internal structure and abundance changes during this pulse are computed with a ...

Current models for the evolution of AGB stars

While the basic properties of AGB stellar evolution are well established, comprehensive observational studies of late phases of intermediate mass stars continue to generate puzzles for current stellar models. Here, I review current techniques to model AGB stars, and I discuss important aspects of current research of AGB (and post-AGB) stellar evolution with a particular focus on how these inter...
